IMMIGRATION & CANNABIS

The Latino Cannabis Alliance advocates for reforms that ensure lawful cannabis activity does not jeopardize immigration status.

Cannabis criminalization has had a devastating and disproportionate impact on Latino immigrant communities, fueling detention, deportation, and economic exclusion. Despite being essential contributors to the legal cannabis ecosystem, Latinos remain significantly underrepresented as business owners, bearing the costs of prohibition without accessing its benefits.
Many Latinos are excluded from the legal cannabis ecosystem due to prior convictions, creating a compounding injustice for those most harmed by criminalization. For others, immigration status prevents safe participation entirely — an unacceptable barrier for a community whose contributions have helped shape it.
LCA advocates for federal cannabis reform that includes expungement, immigration relief for cannabis-related offenses, and equity provisions that create meaningful pathways for Latino business ownership.
